WEEK 15: WEEKEND RAPID REACTION

The Saturday triple header was a glorious spectacle of excitement. I am still torn on the narrative in the first game; a SATURDAY sized choke job or a Norse god resurgence? The middle affair was a classic midwestern winter struggle on the banks of Lake Erie. The Browns dug deep and dispersed their hated rivals. The finale of the NFL Saturday Showcase felt the winter impacts of the Lake (Erie) effect. The Dolphins proved they aren’t scared of the cold, but they didn’t have an answer in the 4th quarter. The Bills found revenge to clinch their 4th straight trip to the postseason.

The early slate of games pickup where the Bills and Dolphins left off. We saw 2 games decided in OT as well as a missed game tying field goal at the buzzer among others. The biggest win was courtesy of the surging Jacksonville Jaguars. They were down 21-7 at half, but Lawrence led a drive that resulted in the game tying field goal as regulation expired. The Jags then supplanted themselves in the AFC South conversation with a game winning pick 6 in OT to beat Dallas. The Texans gave Kansas City all they could handle, but Jerick McKinnon won it in overtime for the Chiefs. The Jets and Lions battled all afternoon, but Detroit was tougher and escaped the Big Apple with a win. The Steelers did just enough to beat the Panthers. The Saints kept their faint NFC South hopes alive with a gritty win over the Falcons. The Eagles were very sloppy in the Windy City, but the Bears made sure they lost to keep their top 5 draft pick status intact.

The late kickoffs were highlighted by clown double digit leads. TB12 and the Buccaneers sank in the 2nd half due to turnovers and miscues. The Bengals took the best shot Tampa could offer and brushed them aside. Even with the loss, Tampa still leads the NFC South. The Raiders were rolling early, but the Patriots fought back to take the lead. The Raiders put together a drive to force OT, or so we thought. The Patriots ran a play with 2 seconds remaining, then started to lateral the ball, but the Raiders intercepted it and took it to the house to win. The Patriots were very un-Patriot and choked it away. Somewhere Al Davis is smiling and yelling Just Win Baby! The Chargers and Titans faced off clinging to playoff hopes. The Chargers gave up a tying touchdown with less than 1 minute remaining in regulation, but responded with a clutch drive and winning field goal. The Broncos scored 24 and defeated the depleted Cardinals. Arizona is basically eliminated and the future of Kliff Kingsbury is messy. The Giants and Commanders gave us an old school slugfest in DC during the nightcap. This game was a battle, but the Giants made a goal to go stand to prevent the game being extended into OT.

What an AWESOME weekend of NFL chaos!

The Monday Night matchup looked amazing in May and even September, but now it’s for desperate survival. The Rams come to Lambeau as a shell of their Super Bowl Champion squad. The Packers have had a load of issues and inconsistent play since October 9th. The Packers can keep their minimal playoff hopes alive with a win. The Rams are hoping Baker can win 2in a row.
