Calijah Kancey, who currently holds the title of ACC Defensive Player of the Year, made a strong impression at the NFL scouting combine held in Indianapolis on Thursday. Kancey showcased his incredible athleticism by completing the 40-yard dash in a blazing 4.78 seconds during his first run, followed by an even more impressive 4.73 seconds on his second attempt.
However, after closer examination, officials found that Kancey’s official time was actually 4.67 seconds, setting a new record for the fastest 40-yard dash time ever recorded by a defensive tackle in NFL history.
Kancey’s achievement is particularly noteworthy as he has surpassed the previous record held by his fellow Pittsburgh alum, Aaron Donald, widely considered one of the best defensive tackles in the league today. While speed alone is not sufficient to excel in the NFL, it is a critical attribute for a defensive lineman and Kancey’s exceptional speed could make him a game-changing player at the next level. With his impressive performance at the scouting combine, Kancey is sure to generate a lot of interest from NFL teams looking for an elite defensive tackle in the upcoming draft.
