Lamar Jackson is Seeking More Guaranteed Money Than Deshaun Watson

Lamar Jackson deserves more than Deshaun Watson’s five-year, $230 million contract, and he is seeking a fully guaranteed deal that reflects his value to the Baltimore Ravens. He seems determined to exceed the Watson contract, and rightfully so.

Even though he turned down a $250 million contract that included $133 million guaranteed, he is justified in wanting a better deal than Watson’s, given his superior performance and value to the Ravens. Better on the field and off, Lamar has done nothing but be everything Baltimore could ask for in a franchise quarterback.

With the NFL Players Association helping represent him, Jackson has a strong negotiating position, but there is a risk that the Ravens may trade him if no compromise can be reached. Perhaps this relationship has run its course and it will be best for both parties to just move forward independent of one another.

As a lifelong Browns fan, I am all about Baltimore getting rid of Lamar. That would mean at least in the short term they would likely struggle to compete for the AFC North crown, opening the path up more for the Browns.

The knee injury this season makes many assume that more injuries are on the horizon for Lamar, and thus hesitation exists to guarantee the deal. With that said, this seems like such a no brainer for the Ravens. Lamar is a clear difference maker. But again, as a Browns fan I am in full support of shipping Lamar Jackson out of the AFC North.
