Green Bay Packers Bounce Back, Beat Detroit Lions on Monday Night Football

Aaron Rodgers and the rest of the Green Bay Packers entered Monday Night’s game determined to erase what was an absolutely atrocious season opening loss to the Saints. Rodgers was in full MVP form, and the Packers looked great while capitalizing on Detroit’s 2nd half mistakes on the way to beating the Lions 35-17.

Lions Hot Start

In total the Detroit Lions opening drive covered 75-yards on 7 plays and ending the drive with a touchdown pass from Goff to Cephus. The drive also featured a 46-yard pass from Goff to Cephus on 3rd & 1 to keep the drive alive, ultimately resulting in points.

Packers Answer With Opening Drive TD

The Green Bay Packers refused to be outdone, posting an 11 play drive that covered 75 yards and ate up nearly 7 minutes off the game clock. On the drive Rodgers connected with tight end Robert Tonyan for a 19 yard gain, and “Big Bob” was barreling over defenders to help set his team up for the score.

Aaron Jones Has Monster 4 TD Game

The Packers opening drive was capped off with an Aaron Jones touchdown, and that was the theme of the night as Jones accounted for 4 out of the 5 touchdowns scored by Green Bay. Here are all 4 of Aaron Jones touchdowns in order.

Aaron Rodgers Is Still That Dude

The Packers starting QB has been at the center of a lot of criticism following the opening game embarrassment the Packers put up against the Saints. A game in which Rodgers threw multiple interceptions, something that is an incredibly rare occurrence.

Many sports media personalities began to speculate about his work ethic and concentration given his off-season being full of non-football fun, combined with his late arrival to team activities.

Rodgers finished Monday Night Football completing 22 of 27 passes for 255 yards and 4 touchdowns with 0 interceptions. Packers win, enough said.

Davante Adams Doing Davnate Adams Things

Despite not finding the end zone against the Lions, Packers star wideout Davante Adams still made his presence felt multiple times throughout the game. Adams caught 8 of his 9 targets, finishing with 121 yards on the day. In other words, he averaged over 15 yards per catch which is pretty damn impressive.

Plays like this 50-yard bomb down the sideline definitely help the overall average. Also helps to have a quarterback that can casually put the ball in the perfect place so consistently.

Adams Footwork Always Amazes Me

In my opinion Davante Adams has the fastest feet/best footwork in the NFL, and I’m not sure it’s close. I’m open to being informed otherwise, but I constantly see videos like this where Adams makes defenders look silly with his fast feet.

Conclusions

Green Bay Packers

All in all it was a great night for the Green Bay Packers, as they managed to not beat themselves with mental mistakes and turnovers, while also being able to capitalize whenever the Lions presented an opportunity.

Detroit Lions

This game started exactly how the Lions would have hoped, but multiple mistakes in the 2nd half were ultimately too much for the team to overcome. There were multiple positives to build on, but the Detroit defense continues to struggle to keep opposing offenses out of the end zone. That’s not an easy fix, nor is it a recipe for success. Hopefully coach Dan Campbell can continue to move this team and organization in the right direction.
