Spain defeated Messi and Argentina to win the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The Spanish team was consistent throughout the entirety of the tournament, playing with a suffocating style and dominating possession.
It was an exciting tournament that garnered a large amount of interest from the US audience. Now that the tournament is over, what happens to that heightened interest? Does it remain in any way, or will people quickly turn the page and shift focus to football season?
Turns Out Soccer Can Be Entertaining
For me personally, I really enjoyed watching the World Cup. I’ve never been one to watch soccer, and I tuned in as often as I could. It truly was an enjoyable sports experience. The games were very competitive and well played, and of course the fact that the United States team had some early success definitely helped peak my interest. But even once the US was eliminated, I was still tuning in to watch.
Impact of Sports Betting
The early US team success combined with the betting opportunities captured my attention and had me entertained and locked in. First half goal bets quickly became a favorie play anytime I was watching a game. Now that the World Cup has concluded, I’ve already been researching when the Premier League season kicks off so that I can continue exploring the game from a betting perspective.

What the Flop?
As previously mentioned, the 2026 World Cup was very entertaining, but it was not without negatives. The flopping was worse than what we see in the NBA. Yes, guys definitely flop and try to get calls in the NBA, but thankfully they don’t fake severe knee or ankle injuries multiple times per game. That was one part of the soccer experience I really didn’t care for. This guy barely gets touched and goes down like he was shot in the back with a shotgun.
Never seen a FLOP this bad EVER.. this is one reason I would never cheer for any futbol team ever.. players are worse than NBA players.. horrible.. pic.twitter.com/AyXfRFqBN6

In the end, the 2026 FIFA World Cup has turned me into a soccer fan. At least for now, we’ll see how things progress once Premier League gets started.
