Colorado Head Coach Deion Sanders has been nothing sort of confident when describing his intentions to have his team ready compete from day one despite the inconceivable amount of roster turnover since his arrival. And today, he and his team proved the doubters wrong in a big way.
Colorado was somehow a 20 point underdog entering the game against TCU, before blowing the doors off expectations from the start. The Colorado defense hit the field first, holding the Horned Frogs to a quick 3-and-out leading to a punt.
Then Shedeur Sanders marched the Buffalo offense down the field with ease on the opening drive, hitting Dylan Edwards with a short pass for a touchdown. It was a perfect way to start the day, and they never let up from there. Both teams were finding success on offense and seemingly scoring at will. That is, until the Colorado defense buckled down and got a stop to seal the victory.
Shedeur Sanders Impresses
There was plenty of skepticism surrounding Coach Prime bringing his son with him to play quarterback at Colorado, along with plenty of hate and claims of nepotism. Thankfully today is a day in which all of those haters can enjoy eating their words. Shedeur Sanders was poised, confident and incredibly accurate on his way to finishing the day 38 of 47 with 510 yards, 4 touchdowns and 0 interceptions.
Travis Hunter Even Better Than Advertised
Excessive hype and underwhelming performances are common occurrences in sports, but on rare occasions there are situations where a player exceeds even the most excessive of expectations. Today was one of those rare times, as Travis Hunter proved he is undoubtedly the most talented player in college football right now. Not simply based on the fact that he plays both offense and defense, but rather because of his ability to be impactful on both sides of the ball.
Hunter finished the game with 11 catches for 119 yards. He did not have a touchdown, though he did drop one that would have been a great addition to his highlight reel. On the play, Hunter blew past one of the best corners in the country to create separation and Shedeur Sanders dropped an absolute dime right where it needed to be, but Hunter was unable to complete the catch.
On the defensive side of the ball, Travis Hunter made a critical play when he broke away from the receiver he was covering in order to make a diving interception that prevented a TCU touchdown. His incredible instincts and athleticism were on full display during this play.
Deion Sanders Has Last Laugh
As previously mentioned, Sanders and his team have been at the center of many discussions regarding how poorly things might go given the massive amount of roster turnover. No one could seem to fathom the immediate impact Deion Sanders’ presence alone could have on a team. Effort and discipline were evident from start to finish for the Colorado Buffalo football team.
