Guess what? Netflix is making a splash in the world of sports! They just announced a new show called Quarterback that will feature NFL quarterbacks Patrick Mahomes, Kirk Cousins, and Marcus Mariota.
Apparently, it’s going to have exclusive behind-the-scenes access to some of the biggest moments of the season. I wonder if this show will be a hit for Netflix, and if they’ll continue with this format in future seasons.
And get this, Netflix is also launching shows about the 2022 Tour de France and the 2022 World Cup! It appears Netflix is making a significant investment into the sports world. It will be interesting to see if it pays off for them in the long run.
The quality of the content will ultimately determine the fate of the investment. The idea that these QBs were mic’d up all season long is very intriguing, but how limited will the final product be? The NFL is very image concerned about their public image, and therefore I fear the end result will be a bit watered down and lackluster. I want to be wrong about this, because capturing additional behind the scenes NFL action has so much potential.
