On Tuesday, the Atlanta Hawks announced that coach Nate McMillan has been fired. McMillan initially joined the team as an assistant coach before being promoted to head coach midway through the 2020-21 season.
According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, former coach of the Utah Jazz, Quin Snyder is reportedly a top candidate to replace McMillan.
During his tenure with the Hawks, McMillan amassed a record of 99-80 over two-plus seasons. He is a highly experienced head coach, having coached over 1400 games with Atlanta, Seattle, Portland, and Indiana.
It seems entirely possible that Nate McMillan has coached his last NBA game, but I certainly hope that is not the case. While I do not watch a ton of Atlanta Hawks basketball, I get the feeling they have issues that go far beyond anything within McMillan’s control.
