Just weeks after winning The Open Championship, the rumors are becoming reality. Cameron Smith is headed to LIV Golf.

Unofficially Official

Smith was hit with an endless stream of questions regarding the possibility of him joining LIV Golf. Despite trying his best to downplay the situation, Smith never denied that a deal worth more then $100 million dollars may already be in place.

You know, my goal here is to win the FedExCup Playoffs. That’s all I’m here for.

When pressed further about the topic, Smith reassured everyone that whenever there is news that needs to be shared then he will let the world know:

I’m a man of my word. Whenever you guys need to know anything, it will be said by me.

Let’s just be honest about this. Cam Smith is joining LIV Golf. However, he is delaying the announcement until after he competes in the FedEx Playoffs. Smith is currently the 2nd ranked golfer in the field, and has a legitimate chance to take home the top prize of over $18 million dollars.

Suspension Coming Soon?

Cam Smith is currently the number two ranked golfer in the world, though he’ll no longer be eligible for the rankings due to the forthcoming suspension from the PGA. Though this specific situation is quite interesting considering the move to LIV has not been “officially” announced, but rather just heavily rumored.

So the question is: will the PGA Tour suspend Cam Smith, preventing him from competing in the FedEx Playoffs?

PGA Old and Out Of Touch

Suspending Smith prior to an official announcement would be the latest in a long line of dumb decisions being made by PGA leaders and officials. As mentioned in a recent post, the decision makers at the PGA appear to be past their prime.

LIV Golf continues to gain more momentum, while the PGA does their best to emphasize exclusivity requirements. How long until “playing for PGA history” is no longer a thing? Because I don’t think it is going to take very long at all given the amount of money being offered by LIV.
