THIS WEEK IN SPORTS: OCT 3RD – 9TH

This week is a sports fans dream week. We have NFL, College Football, MLB Wild Card games, NHL Season Openers, soccer across the globe and NBA Preseason. In an effort to capture the excitement, members of the Spinnable Sports Team will be making our annual trip to Vegas.

It’s crazy to fathom, but this is week 6 of the college football season and week 5 of the NFL. We waited patiently all spring and summer for football and we’re almost halfway through the schedule. The final day of the MLB schedule is Wednesday and the 3 game Wild Card series will take place over the weekend. The only playoff spots that are still undecided are the final 2 NL Wild Card spots. That battle is being waged by the Padres, Phillies and Brewers with Milwaukee on the outside looking in as of right now. Another battle to watch is the NL East race between the Braves and Mets. Each team has secured a playoff spot, but the division title and home field in the wild card round is at stake.

The NHL returns to the ice on October 7th. The defending champion Colorado Avalanche are looking to protect the Stanley Cup. There are many viable suitors looking to claim the Cup as their own, highlighted by the Lightning, Maple Leafs, Hurricanes, Oilers, Blues, and Panthers.
